Paphos EOA on 'Battle Stations' Ahead of Weather Front - Crews on Alert

The meteorological service forecasts rain and thunderstorms across Cyprus, with the most intense phenomena expected in coastal areas. There is a possibility of sleet on the highest peaks of Troodos. Despite strong winds, the meteorological service does not anticipate particularly dangerous phenomena and no warning has been issued. A flight to Paphos was diverted to Larnaca due to the winds. Meteorologist Andreas Hadjigeorgiou explained that the rain is due to low pressure affecting the region, but the weakening of the pressure is not expected to cause serious problems. A new low pressure system is forming near Italy and will affect Cyprus until Saturday, bringing potential thunderstorms. The Paphos EOA has put its crews on alert and cleaned the drains to prevent flooding. Four crews are on standby to deal with any problems in the municipalities of Paphos and Yeroskipou, with the possibility of reinforcement if necessary. The president of the Paphos EOA, Charalambos Pittokopitis, stated that the crews are ready to respond to any need and that all necessary preparations have been made to deal with the weather phenomena.
