Paphos Mayor Calls for Focus on Tourism Quality and Key Projects in 2026

The Mayor of Paphos, Faidon Faiodonou, described 2025 as a “very good year” for tourism in the region, noting that the data sends optimistic messages for the future. In a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Tourism, he stressed the need to shift the focus from quantity to quality, suggesting that attracting high-quality visitors with higher per capita spending is key to further success. Mr. Faiodonou requested the support of the Deputy Minister of Tourism for three important projects that will start in 2026: the Paphos marina, the road connecting the tourist area to the airport, and the completion of the Paphos airport expansion. He expressed strong criticism of the images of crowding and waiting at Paphos airport in 2025, describing them as “shameful images”. The Mayor emphasized that the timely start of these projects is vital for the further development of tourism in Paphos. He pointed out that the last ten to twenty years have been characterized by continuous planning and delays in the implementation of important projects, and that 2026 must mark a change in this trend.
