President Describes Giorgos Vassiliou as 'Distinguished, Virtuous, and Beneficial'

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, paid tribute to Giorgos Vassiliou, the third President of the Republic of Cyprus, in his funeral oration on Saturday. He described the deceased as a distinguished, virtuous, and beneficial man, with a cosmopolitan spirit and free thinking. President Christodoulides emphasized that Giorgos Vassiliou was a protagonist of modern history in Cyprus, Greece, and Europe, with a long and experience-filled life journey. He referred to his studies and residence in Mytilene, Budapest, Geneva, London, and other cities, as well as his service in Cyprus and the Middle East. He pointed out that Vassiliou was a man who never forgot the simple values of life and the needs of people, regardless of their origin or beliefs. He stressed his commitment to resolving the Cyprus issue and reunifying the country, as well as his contribution to the modernization of the state through significant reforms, such as tax transformation and the establishment of the first public university.
