In his New Year's message, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, referred to Cyprus' upcoming Presidency of the European Union in 2026, describing it as a milestone for the country. He emphasized that the government has promoted significant reforms and is focused on five key priorities. The President underscored that resolving the Cyprus issue and reuniting the homeland is the top challenge. He pledged to continue efforts for a functional and viable solution, while acknowledging the difficulties. Furthermore, he mentioned the responsible fiscal policy followed, which has led to economic growth, full employment, zero inflation, and a reduction in public debt. These results, according to the President, allow for the implementation of targeted social policies and investments. The President's message concluded with the expression of confidence that Cyprus will successfully meet the challenges of its EU Presidency, working for an autonomous and open Union.
