President Praises 'Exemplary' Cooperation with DIKO

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, described the cooperation with DIKO as “exemplary,” stating that this is demonstrated by the results of the government. The statement was made on the sidelines of a visit to the Conference Center in Nicosia, which will host events of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. The President responded to a question regarding statements made by the President of DIKO, Nikola Papadopoulos, concerning possible pre-election motives behind the party's reactions. Christodoulides emphasized that the cooperation with DIKO is substantial and has led to significant achievements, such as tax reform, the reform of teacher evaluation, and the upgrading of Cyprus's international position. He pointed out that the government has managed to maintain a strong economy with high growth rates, full employment, and Cyprus's return to investment grade by international rating agencies. All of this, according to the President, is a result of the “exemplary” cooperation with DIKO and other parties. Regarding Papadopoulos's view that supporting the government has a cost for the party, the President replied that he respects the opinion of the DIKO President and cannot speak on his behalf. However, he stressed that DIKO's contribution to the government's success is crucial.
