Putin Declares Russia Believes in Victory in Ukraine in New Year's Message

In his New Year's address, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia believes it will win the war in Ukraine. The speech was broadcast for the first time from the Kamchatka Peninsula, the first Russian region to welcome the new year. Putin called on Russians to 'support our heroes' fighting in Ukraine and wished a happy new year to 'fighters and commanders'. The speech took place on the 26th anniversary of his rise to power, as he became President of Russia on New Year's Eve 1999.
