Putin: Russia Has No Interest in Greenland Ownership

Vladimir Putin commented on Donald Trump's attempt to purchase Greenland, stating that Russia has no interest in owning the island. Putin emphasized that Russia is merely observing the situation, which primarily concerns the United States and Denmark, and called on the two countries to resolve the issue between themselves. The Russian president criticized Denmark for its treatment of Greenland, describing it as colonial and harsh, but noted that this is a separate matter. He recalled historical precedents of land sales, such as Russia's sale of Alaska to the US in 1867 and Denmark's sale of the Virgin Islands to the US in 1917. Putin estimated that the purchase of Greenland by the US could cost around $1 billion, taking into account the size of the island, inflation, and the price of gold. He believed that the US could afford this amount and expressed his confidence that the two countries would reach an agreement. It is worth noting that Trump's attempt to acquire Greenland had caused reactions and rifts in transatlantic relations, with Trump later backing down from his initial threats of imposing tariffs.
