Retail Sales Improved During the Holidays, Says POVEK General Secretary

Retail sales during the holidays and the days leading up to New Year's were satisfactory and better than in previous years, according to POVEK General Secretary, Stefanos Koursaris. The market performed well, particularly in essential goods, while the drop in temperature also helped other sectors, such as clothing and footwear. Mr. Koursaris noted that many consumers may be waiting for the start of the sales period to make further purchases. The festive atmosphere and Cypriot mentality contributed positively to market activity. Regarding inflation, Mr. Koursaris stated that it tends to take a backseat during holiday periods, as consumers try to meet their families' needs. However, he acknowledged that inflation exists and that some consumers made more conservative purchases. Overall, the year is considered good and satisfactory compared to previous years, despite the economic difficulties faced by some citizens.
