Scholz on Iran: 'We May Be Witnessing the Last Days of This Regime'

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has suggested that the regime in Iran may be nearing its end, due to the ongoing mass anti-government protests in the country, despite a complete internet shutdown for over 100 hours. Scholz stated that a regime that relies solely on violence to remain in power is doomed. He had already condemned the violent suppression of protesters by Iranian security forces. The protests began due to high inflation and poor economic conditions, but have taken a political turn. According to Iran Human Rights, at least 648 people have been killed since the start of the demonstrations. Meanwhile, internet access remains cut off nationwide, isolating Iranians from the rest of the world.
