School Principal Sentenced for Taping 13-Year-Old Student

A school principal in Serres has been sentenced to two years in prison, suspended with a daily fine of €10, for unlawful violence and causing bodily harm to a vulnerable person. The conviction relates to the incident where she taped the mouth of a 13-year-old student because he was being disruptive. According to the student's mother's complaint, the principal initially asked a classmate to put tape in the boy's mouth, but when the classmate refused, she did it herself, also tying his hands with the help of another student. The incident lasted a whole lesson until a philologist found him and freed him. The principal claimed she did it as a joke and that the student did not object, while the philologist testified that there have been other complaints against her and that colleagues have collected signatures to report her to the Ministry. The mother also reported that the principal threatened her son and warned she would use larger tape the next day.
