Spain to Regulate Deepfakes and Strengthen Consent Laws

Spain is advancing legislation to regulate deepfakes and strengthen consent laws regarding the use of photographs. The bill, approved by the cabinet under Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, enhances the protection of children, setting the minimum age for consent at 16 and restricting the reuse of photos and voices without permission. The European Union is also intensifying efforts to control deepfakes, requiring member states to criminalize non-consensual sexual deepfakes by 2027. The bill allows for the creation of deepfakes for satirical or fictional purposes, provided they are clearly labeled as AI-generated.
