Cyprus is bracing for strong winds on New Year's Day, prompting a yellow warning from the Meteorological Service. Winds will be westerly to northwesterly, ranging from 6 to 7 Beaufort, and locally reaching 8 Beaufort, especially in the southwest, west, north, and interior of the island. The weather is expected to be partly cloudy and intermittently cloudy, with the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the west, north, and mountains. Snow or sleet is expected on the higher peaks of Troodos and in some mountainous areas. The temperature will rise to 14 degrees Celsius inland, around 17 degrees Celsius on the coast, and 3 degrees Celsius in the mountains. In the evening, the weather will remain partly cloudy, with winds weakening. The temperature will drop to 3 degrees Celsius inland, around 8 degrees Celsius on the west coast, around 5 degrees Celsius on the other coasts, and around -2 degrees Celsius in the mountains, with the possibility of frost in mountainous and sheltered plain areas. The forecast for Friday and Saturday is mainly clear weather with temporarily increased clouds, while Sunday is expected to see an increase in high cloud cover. The temperature will fall on Friday, but will gradually begin to rise until Sunday.
