Sycas: Marathon Testimony and Political Turmoil Ahead of Elections

MP Nikos Sycas has completed a lengthy testimony to the Limassol police regarding a complaint of domestic violence filed by a former partner. The complaint was withdrawn, however, the police investigation continues. The testimony was given after a court decision lifted his parliamentary immunity, as there was sufficient evidence to investigate four offenses: physical violence, psychological violence, assault causing bodily harm, and threats. Investigators will take additional testimonies and evidence from Athens. Despite the withdrawal of the complaint, the investigation does not stop. The case has caused political turmoil, with the DISY Political Bureau considering excluding Mr. Sycas from the parliamentary election ballot. The MP himself claims innocence and intends to appeal to the Supreme Court if his exclusion is confirmed, arguing that the decision should be based on substantiated evidence and the party's statutes.
