Syria: Immediate Ceasefire Agreed Between Al-Sara and Kurdish-Led SDF

An immediate ceasefire on all fronts has been agreed between the Syrian government and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), following days of clashes in the northeast, where the army is advancing into areas under Kurdish control. The agreement came after a meeting between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sara and US envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, who emphasized the need to respect Syria's sovereignty. US envoy Tom Barrack welcomed the ceasefire agreement announced today between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sara and Kurdish leader Mazloum Abdi, following the advance of government forces into Kurdish areas in northern and eastern Syria. “This agreement and this ceasefire represent a turning point, with former adversaries choosing cooperation over discord,” Barrack wrote on the X platform. The meeting followed Barrack’s previous visit to Erbil, where he met with the leader of the SDF. The agreement is expected to pave the way for restoring stability in Syria and addressing the humanitarian challenges facing the country.
