Tax Department: Zero VAT on Essential Goods Throughout 2026

The Tax Department has announced the continuation of the application of a zero VAT rate on certain essential goods for the entire year of 2026, based on a Decree of the Council of Ministers. The measure aims to support households and contain the cost of living. Products that will continue to have zero VAT include infant formula (liquid and powder), baby and adult diapers, feminine hygiene products (tampons, sanitary pads), as well as a wide variety of fresh vegetables and fruits. The list of vegetables includes potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garlic, leeks, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, and others. Regarding fruits, the measure covers bananas, figs, avocados, citrus fruits, grapes, melons, watermelons, apples, pears, and seasonal fruits such as apricots, peaches, cherries, nectarines, plums, strawberries, and kiwis. The Tax Department clarifies that the application of zero VAT applies exclusively to the categories of products specified in the relevant Decree and calls on economic operators to fully comply with the provisions.
