The Need for 'Institutional Prevention'

Frixos Vryonidis, in his article, analyzes the issues arising from the recent video and emphasizes that the discussion should not be limited to the Independent Social Support Authority or its donors. He points out that the problem lies in the creation of mechanisms with “loopholes” that allow abuse and the exercise of undue influence. The Parliament's attempt to limit these loopholes through the disclosure of donors was not effective. The author criticizes the lack of substantial institutional response after the publication of the Auditor General's Report, which highlighted serious problems in the operation of the Authority. Furthermore, he states that similar phenomena have been observed in the past, such as the golden passport scandal, where the discussion opened only when the issue became widely known. Vryonidis argues that 'institutional prevention' is needed, not just ex post facto checks and investigations.
