Thymeli Scheme Continues to Spark Controversy

The announcement of the results of the Thymeli Scheme for the funding of theatrical productions has once again sparked controversy. While some organizations, such as One Theatre, have returned to grants, other theaters, such as Versus and Roe, have protested against systematic exclusion without adequate justification. Particular criticism was leveled at the exclusion of Roe Theatre, the only living theater in Larnaca and a key player for the 2030 Cultural Capital. Representatives of the theaters argue that this recurring practice is not accidental, but a conscious political choice. The lack of transparency and unjustified discrimination between theaters creates a sense of injustice and threatens the sustainability of certain artistic organizations. The criticism highlights the need to review the criteria of the Thymeli Scheme and for a fairer and more transparent distribution of funds.
