Tour Guides Demand Crackdown on Illegal Tours and Monument Monitoring in Cyprus

The Cyprus Tour Guides Association held a protest outside the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, demanding a crackdown on illegal tours and monitoring of archaeological sites and monuments. Guides are protesting the lack of controls and inspections, which they say undermines their profession and tourism in Cyprus. They point out that illegal guides, both Cypriot and foreign, operate unchecked, and there are no checks at the checkpoints for buses traveling to the occupied territories. The Deputy Minister of Tourism expressed his willingness to amend the legislation, while also asking the guides to indicate the areas where the most illegal activities occur. The former President of the Association emphasized the high level of Cypriot guides and the undermining of the profession by illegal guiding.
