Turkish Ministry of Defense: “We Will Provide Support to Syria if Requested”

The Turkish Ministry of Defense is closely monitoring developments in Syria following the resurgence of clashes between the Syrian army and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Aleppo. Ankara states its readiness to provide support to Syria if a request is made, arguing that Damascus is conducting an anti-terrorism operation to restore order and the safety of citizens. The Turkish position is based on the principles of Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, as well as the doctrine of “one state, one army,” rejecting the creation of parallel armed structures. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan accused the SDF of “playing a double game,” coordinating with Israel and undermining Syria’s national unity. Turkey supports talks involving the US, Syria, and Israel, with the aim of stability and Syria’s territorial integrity. Fidan called on the SDF to withdraw from Aleppo and demilitarize the areas so that the Syrian government can restore normalcy and services. Turkey has had intensive contacts with Syria and the US in the last two days to prevent further bloodshed, accusing the SDF of not responding to messages and initiatives. These statements are accompanied by strong criticism of the SDF in the Turkish press.
