Underwater Robots Resume Search for MH370, 12 Years After Disappearance

The search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, a Boeing 777 that disappeared mysteriously in March 2014 with 239 people on board, has resumed. The operation, conducted by the American-British company Ocean Infinity, is expected to last up to 55 days and will utilize state-of-the-art underwater robots capable of descending to great depths and mapping the seabed of the Indian Ocean. Ocean Infinity will receive $70 million only if the wreckage of the aircraft is found. The new search area, approximately 15,000 square kilometers, is significantly smaller than previous ones, as it is based on more targeted analyses of satellite data and modeling. Previous searches, including those led by Australia, were unsuccessful, with only a few fragments recovered from the shores of Réunion and Mozambique. The disappearance of flight MH370 remains one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history, and the families of the passengers continue to seek answers.
