Washington Moves Forward with Transit Route Through Armenia

The US is moving forward with plans to create a transit route through Armenia, connecting Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan enclave. The agreement, reached in August, provides for the creation of a transit zone crossing Armenia, a long-standing demand of Baku. The route will be named “Trump Road for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) and road and rail infrastructure will be developed with US investment. The goal is to strengthen economic activity, gain access to critical metals and rare earths, and create a model for peaceful coexistence. Iran opposes the plan, while Armenia insists that the security of the route will be its own responsibility.
