Zelensky Asks Trump for Security Guarantees for Ukraine, Up to 50 Years

Volodymyr Zelensky requested security guarantees from Donald Trump for Ukraine, spanning 30, 40, or even 50 years, during their negotiations at the White House. While Washington's initial proposal was for 15 years, Zelensky believes this is insufficient. Trump stated he would consider the request, noting that one or two issues remain pending. Zelensky mentioned that Trump informed him he had discussed all 20 points of the peace plan with Vladimir Putin, and that Putin appeared willing. However, Zelensky emphasized the need for Putin's words to be matched with actions. He also proposed a referendum on the 20-point peace plan in Ukraine, contingent on a ceasefire of at least 60 days. The Ukrainian President stated that any meeting with Russia would only be possible after the US and Europe agree on a peace framework proposed by Ukraine. Ukraine and the United States share a common position regarding the need for peace, while also protecting Ukraine's sovereignty. Zelensky also criticized Putin for hypocrisy, stating that he often says one thing but does the opposite.
